Lo! You are the ones who love them but they love you not, and you believe in all the Scriptures [i.e. you believe in the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel), while they disbelieve in your Book, the Qur’ân]. And when they meet you, they say, "We believe." But when they are alone, they bite the tips of their fingers at you in rage. Say: "Perish in your rage. Certainly, Allâh knows what is in the breasts (all the secrets)."

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 119) {”الْاَنَامِلَ“} is the plural of {’’اَنْمِلَةٌ‘‘}, which means the tips of the fingers. {’’عَضَّ يَعَضُّ (س) ‘‘} means to bite with the teeth. "Al-Kitab" refers to all the heavenly books, meaning you believe in all the books, and they do not believe in any book, yet instead of hating them, you befriend them, and instead of befriending you, they are hostile towards you, and their enmity is so intense that when they are alone, out of anger, they bite the tips of their fingers with their teeth, but when they meet you, they say that they have believed. The hypocrites' enmity towards Muslims has been made clear.
