Have they not seen that We have made (Makkah) a secure sanctuary, while men are being snatched away from all around them? Then do they believe in Bâtil (falsehood - polytheism, idols and all deities other than Allâh), and deny (become ingrate for) the Graces of Allâh?

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. (Ayah 67) {اَوَلَمْيَرَوْااَنَّاجَعَلْنَاحَرَمًااٰمِنًا … :} Previously, the blessing of granting security after putting the people of Makkah in fear during sea journeys was mentioned; now, the blessing of granting security on land without putting them in any fear is mentioned, at a time when the entire Arabia was deprived of this blessing. In {’’ اَوَلَمْيَرَوْا ‘‘}, the conjunction "waaw" is actually before the interrogative "hamzah," but since the interrogative "hamzah" comes at the beginning, the "waaw" is placed after it. Therefore, the translation of "waaw" is done before the "hamzah" as "And have they not seen...?" That is, at a time when the entire Arabian Peninsula around them is in such a state that neither life nor wealth is safe, and no one knows when he might be taken away. In these circumstances, the people of Makkah have security in Makkah because of the Haram, to the extent that even if someone sees his father's killer in the Haram, he says nothing to him, and then, even in distant journeys during winter and summer, because they are residents of the Haram, no one says anything to them.
