And (We destroyed also) Qârûn (Korah), Fir‘aun (Pharaoh), and Hâmân. And indeed Mûsâ (Moses) came to them with clear Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), but they were arrogant in the land, yet they could not outstrip Us (escape Our punishment).

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 39) {وَ قَارُوْنَ وَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَ هَامٰنَ …:} In the previous verses, there was mention of disbelieving and arrogant nations; in this verse, as an example for Abu Jahl, Umayyah ibn Khalaf, Utbah, Shaybah, Abu Lahab, and other great disbelieving and arrogant chiefs of Quraysh, a few past disbelieving and arrogant individuals are mentioned who, due to their disbelief and arrogance, became the cause of their own and their nation’s destruction. Among them, Qarun is an example of disbelief and arrogance due to his abundance of wealth, Pharaoh due to his rule, and Haman due to his ministry. All three of them were brought clear miracles by Musa (Moses) عليه السلام, but they became arrogant in the land of Egypt and refused to believe; then, when Allah’s punishment came, there was not a single one who could escape His grasp.
