Surah Al-Ankaboot (29) — Ayah 18

وَإِن تُكَذِّبُوا۟ فَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أُمَمٌ مِّن قَبْلِكُمْ ۖ وَمَا عَلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ ﴿18﴾
"And if you deny, then nations before you have denied (their Messengers). And the duty of the Messenger is only to convey (the Message) plainly."
وَإِن wa-in And if
تُكَذِّبُوا۟ tukadhibū you deny
فَقَدْ faqad then verily
كَذَّبَ kadhaba denied
أُمَمٌۭ umamun (the) nations
مِّن min before you
قَبْلِكُمْ ۖ qablikum before you
وَمَا wamā And not
عَلَى ʿalā (is) on
ٱلرَّسُولِ l-rasūli the Messenger
إِلَّا illā except
ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ l-balāghu the conveyance
ٱلْمُبِينُ l-mubīnu clear

(Ayah 18) ➊ {وَ اِنْ تُكَذِّبُوْا فَقَدْ كَذَّبَ اُمَمٌ مِّنْ قَبْلِكُمْ:} The conjunction "waaw" indicates that the previous sentence, to which this sentence is connected, is omitted, i.e., {’’فَإِنْ تُصَدِّقُوْنِيْ فَقَدْ فُزْتُمْ بِسَعَادَةِ الدَّارَيْنِ‘‘} "So if you affirm me, then you have succeeded in attaining happiness in this world and the Hereafter." {’’ وَ اِنْ تُكَذِّبُوْا …‘‘} And if you deny me, then for admonition it is sufficient for you to know that many nations before you denied their prophets, such as the people of Nuh, ‘Ad, Thamud, etc., so what was their outcome? Did they harm the prophets in any way, or did they only ruin their own fate?
{ وَ مَا عَلَى الرَّسُوْلِ اِلَّا الْبَلٰغُ الْمُبِيْنُ :} And the only responsibility of the Messenger is to convey Allah’s message in such a way that no doubt remains; he is not responsible for anyone accepting or rejecting it.
