And it will be said (to them): "Call upon your (so-called) partners (of Allâh)", and they will call upon them, but they will give no answer to them, and they will see the torment. (They will then wish) if only they had been guided!

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 64) {وَ قِيْلَ ادْعُوْا شُرَكَآءَكُمْ … :} That is, first it will be said to them: Where are My partners whom you used to claim? Before they are able to give any answer, it will be said to them: Call your partners for help. They will call them, but they will not respond to them. At that moment, in despair, they will wish, "If only we had accepted guidance in the world." Some commentators have explained its meaning as follows: When the devils and the polytheists mention the names of Allah's righteous servants as their partners, it will be said to them: Call your partners. They will not give any answer, because they were neither aware of their polytheistic acts nor pleased with them. At that very moment, by Allah's command, Hell will be brought and placed before them, so they will be certain that they are about to be thrown into it. See Surah Al-Kahf (52, 53).
