سُوْرَةُ الْقَصَصِ
Surah Al-Qasas (28) — Ayah 39
وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ هُوَ وَجُنُودُهُۥ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَظَنُّوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْنَا لَا يُرْجَعُونَ ﴿39﴾

And he and his hosts were arrogant in the land, without right, and they thought that they would never return to Us.

(Ayah 39) ➊ By {وَ اسْتَكْبَرَ هُوَ وَ جُنُوْدُهٗ فِي الْاَرْضِ: ’’ الْاَرْضِ ‘‘} is meant the land of Egypt. That is, the right to greatness belongs only to Allah, Lord of all the worlds, but these people, having gained power in a small country, began to think that only they are great.
➋ {وَ ظَنُّوْۤا اَنَّهُمْ اِلَيْنَا لَا يُرْجَعُوْنَ:} That is, after attaining temporary power, they thought that there is no being above them before whom they have to appear after death, so they have free rein to do whatever they want and to spread whatever corruption they wish in the land.
