Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 33) {قَالَرَبِّاِنِّيْقَتَلْتُمِنْهُمْنَفْسًا …:} Musa (peace be upon him) did not say this to refuse the responsibility, but rather to request help regarding the difficulties that might arise in this matter. Thus, he mentioned the dangers that he foresaw in this regard and obtained assurance of help from Allah Almighty in those dangers. (It is stated in Tafsir Biqa'i that this foresight was the noble habit of this great Prophet; see how, for our benefit, he repeatedly asked the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to return to Allah Almighty to request reduction.) Among these, the first danger he mentioned was that he had killed one of their men, so he feared that they would kill him before he could present the invitation.
