Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 21) The word 'yataraqqabu' is from 'raqabah' (neck), and it means to look around, turning one's neck here and there, to wait. When this matter came to the knowledge of Musa (peace be upon him), he immediately set out alone from the city. He had never faced such a situation before; rather, as a prince, he had been living a life of great prosperity and comfort. Now, looking around as he left the city, trying to escape the grasp of the enemy, he prayed to Allah Almighty: O my Lord! Just as You have miraculously nurtured me, grant me deliverance from these wrongdoers. He called them wrongdoers because, in addition to their countless previous injustices, their latest injustice was that they were intent on killing Musa (peace be upon him), which was a clear act of oppression, because in no law is the punishment for accidental killing itself death.
