And whoever brings an evil deed (i.e. Shirk - polytheism, disbelief in the Oneness of Allâh and every evil sinful deed), they will be cast down (prone) on their faces in the Fire. (And it will be said to them) "Are you being recompensed anything except what you used to do?"

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 90) {وَ مَنْ جَآءَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ فَكُبَّتْ وُجُوْهُهُمْ فِي النَّارِ … :} Here, evil refers to shirk (associating partners with Allah); this is agreed upon by the majority of the Companions and later scholars. The reason for this specification is the dreadful punishment that is mentioned ahead. The evidence for this is the Sahih hadith in which it is stated that the Fire will not consume the places of prostration (see Bukhari: 6573), and among the places of prostration, the most honored is the face. Therefore, it is not possible that those who are thrown into the Fire on their faces are monotheistic Muslims.
