Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Till, when they come (before their Lord at the place of reckoning), He will say: "Did you deny My Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) whereas you comprehended them not by knowledge (of their truth or falsehood), or what (else) was it that you used to do?"

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 84){ حَتّٰۤىاِذَاجَآءُوْ …:} That is, when they are brought forth, they will be questioned about both their beliefs and actions, and this questioning will be to embarrass and silence them: Was this your occupation in the world, that you denied Our verses without fully knowing and understanding them? The reason for your denial was not that you considered them wrong after fully knowing and understanding them, or then tell what you used to do, as in Surah Al-Mulk the saying of the disbelievers is quoted, He said: «{ وَقَالُوْالَوْكُنَّانَسْمَعُاَوْنَعْقِلُمَاكُنَّافِيْۤاَصْحٰبِالسَّعِيْرِ (10) فَاعْتَرَفُوْابِذَنْۢبِهِمْفَسُحْقًالِّاَصْحٰبِالسَّعِيْرِ }»[ الملک : ۱۰، ۱۱ ] "And they will say, 'If only we had listened or used our reason, we would not be among the companions of the blazing Fire.' So they will confess their sin, so away with the companions of the blazing Fire." The same is the condition of the innovators, sectarians, deniers of hadith, and those who are overawed by the disbelievers and claim modernity in our times: whenever an ayah or hadith is not understood, without pondering over it fully or asking someone for understanding, they reject it; or if any ayah or hadith seems contrary to their sect's doctrine, they reject it, or interpret it in such a way that is even worse than outright rejection.
