سُوْرَةُ النَّمْلِ
Surah An-Naml (27) — Ayah 39
قَالَ عِفْرِيتٌ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ أَنَا۠ ءَاتِيكَ بِهِۦ قَبْلَ أَن تَقُومَ مِن مَّقَامِكَ ۖ وَإِنِّى عَلَيْهِ لَقَوِىٌّ أَمِينٌ ﴿39﴾

A ‘Ifrît (strong one) from the jinn said: "I will bring it to you before you rise from your place (council). And verily, I am indeed strong, and trustworthy for such work."

The root of {قَالَ عِفْرِيْتٌ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ اَنَا اٰتِيْكَ بِهٖ: … :’’ عِفْرِيْتٌ ‘‘} is {’’ اَلْعَفَرُ ‘‘}, which means soil. In Tafsir Maraghi it is stated: {’’ اَلْعِفْرِيْتُ مِنَ الْبَشَرِ : اَلْخَبِيْثُ الْمَاكِرُ الَّذِيْ يُعَفِّرُ أَقْرَانَهُ ‘‘} "That wicked deceiver who throws his opponents to the ground." It means one who is powerful and wicked. A very powerful and wicked jinn said, "Before you rise from your assembly, I will bring that throne to you, and I have full strength to bring it and am trustworthy," meaning I will not betray any diamond, jewel, or valuable thing. It appears that his reputation was not good, so he had to present his own clarification. (And Allah knows best.) There were many such devils present with Sulaiman (peace be upon him), as He said: «{ وَ مِنَ الشَّيٰطِيْنِ مَنْ يَّغُوْصُوْنَ لَهٗ وَ يَعْمَلُوْنَ عَمَلًا دُوْنَ ذٰلِكَ }» [ الأنبیاء : ۸۲ ] "And many devils who dived for him and did other work besides that."
