Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 27) {قَالَسَنَنْظُرُاَصَدَقْتَاَمْكُنْتَمِنَالْكٰذِبِيْنَ:} Since the hoopoe presented this statement as an excuse to avoid punishment, there was also a possibility of falsehood in it. Therefore, although Sulaiman (peace be upon him) overlooked the punishment, he said that we will see whether you have spoken the truth or you were among the liars. Here, these words are noteworthy that instead of saying {’’أَصَدَقْتَأَمْكَذَبْتَ‘‘} meaning whether you have spoken the truth or a lie, he said, "or you were among the liars." Baqa'i has explained its wisdom that only one who is habitually a liar could dare to lie before a majestic king like Sulaiman (peace be upon him), therefore he said: "or you were among the liars." From this, it is understood that if an accused person brings news, it is necessary to investigate whether he is truthful or a liar.
