Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 86) {وَ اغْفِرْ لِاَبِيْۤ اِنَّهٗ كَانَ مِنَ الضَّآلِّيْنَ :} When Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was parting from his father, he promised to pray for his forgiveness (Maryam: 47), so he made this supplication. The purpose of supplication during life is that he may be granted the ability to repent, so that his sins may be forgiven, and if it is after death, then it is a prayer for the forgiveness of his shirk and other sins. However, later when he came to know that it is not correct to pray for forgiveness for a polytheist and enemy of the truth, he withdrew from this supplication, as is mentioned in Surah Tawbah: «{ فَلَمَّا تَبَيَّنَ لَهٗۤ اَنَّهٗ عَدُوٌّ لِّلّٰهِ تَبَرَّاَ مِنْهُ [ التوبۃ : ۱۱۴ ] "Then when it became clear to him that he was an enemy of Allah, he disassociated himself from him."
