Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

By {وَ اجْعَلْ لِّيْ لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ …: ’’ لِسَانَ ‘‘} is meant praise, because it is done with the tongue. By {’’ لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ ‘‘} is meant good praise and noble reputation, that is, grant me true renown among the generations to come until the Day of Resurrection, so that they continue to mention me with good words. Allah Almighty accepted his prayer; Jews, Christians, and Muslims all consider him their leader and mention him with good words. Muslims even say {’’كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلٰي إِبْرَاهِيْمَ‘‘} and {’’كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلٰي إِبْرَاهِيْمَ‘‘} in prayer. [ دیکھیے بخاري : ۳۳۷۰ ] Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) deduced from this verse that there is no harm in a person wishing for a good reputation. Some scholars have said that its benefit in the Hereafter is that perhaps, upon hearing of his good deeds and reputation, someone may begin to do those deeds, and he will also receive the reward for them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ مَنْ سَنَّ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ سُنَّةً حَسَنَةً فَعُمِلَ بِهَا بَعْدَهُ كُتِبَ لَهُ مِثْلُ أَجْرِ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا وَلَا يَنْقَصُ مِنْ أُجُوْرِهِمْ شَيْءٌ ] [مسلم، العلم، باب من سن سنۃ حسنۃ… : ۱۵ /۱۰۱۷، قبل ح : ۲۶۷۴، عن جریر بن عبد اللہ رضی اللہ عنہ ] "Whoever introduces a good practice in Islam, and then it is acted upon after him, there will be written for him a reward like that of those who act upon it, without their rewards being diminished in the least." Some commentators have also taken from this that, in the end times, a prophet should be from my descendants, as He said: «{ رَبَّنَا وَ ابْعَثْ فِيْهِمْ رَسُوْلًا مِّنْهُمْ [ البقرۃ : ۱۲۹ ] "Our Lord! And raise up in them a messenger from among themselves." But this meaning does not come from the words of this supplication.
