Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 63) {فَاَوْحَيْنَاۤاِلٰىمُوْسٰۤىاَنِاضْرِبْبِّعَصَاكَالْبَحْرَ …:} Some people who deny miracles interpret the drowning of Pharaoh and his people in the sea by saying that when the Children of Israel reached the shore of the sea, there was a state of ebb in the sea, the water had receded, so they crossed it safely. After them, Pharaoh and his people also entered the sea. When they were fully inside, the state of "flow" occurred in the sea, the water suddenly surged and they were all drowned. In reality, this is not an interpretation but a clear denial of the Qur'an. Allah Almighty says that at that moment, We revealed to Musa (peace be upon him) to strike his staff on the sea, so the sea split, and each part of the water stood still like a very large, wide, and high mountain. In Surah Ta-Ha, it is mentioned that a dry path was made between them (in the wet and marshy bed of the sea), it is said: «{ فَاضْرِبْلَهُمْطَرِيْقًافِيالْبَحْرِيَبَسًا }»[ طٰہٰ : ۷۷ ] "So make for them a dry path in the sea." Consider the difference between the rising and falling of the sea due to ebb and flow, and the water standing still in the form of huge mountains instead of maintaining its level. In fact, these people do not have faith that the Master who has placed the property of burning in fire and the property of flowing and drowning in water, can, whenever He wills, take back these properties from them. These people have made blind and deaf matter their deity, which does not even have any control over itself. Here, instead of {’’فَأَوْحَيْنَاإِلَيْهِ‘‘}, in {’’ فَاَوْحَيْنَاۤاِلٰىمُوْسٰۤى ‘‘}, the name of Musa (peace be upon him) is mentioned to express his great status as a reward for his trust in his Lord.
