سُوْرَةُ الشُّعَرَآءِ
Surah Ash-Shu'araa (26) — Ayah 3
لَعَلَّكَ بَـٰخِعٌ نَّفْسَكَ أَلَّا يَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿3﴾

It may be that you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) are going to kill yourself with grief, that they do not become believers [in your Risalah (Messengership) i.e. in your Message of Islâmic Monotheism].

(Ayah 3) {لَعَلَّكَ بَاخِعٌ نَّفْسَكَ …:} The purpose here is to console the Prophet (peace be upon him) that you should not be so grieved over the misfortune of these people not believing; there is no greater miracle than the Qur’an, and you have shown it to them. If they still do not believe, then there is no need to grieve so much over them. See the commentary of Surah Al-Kahf, Ayah (6), and Surah Fatir, Ayah (8).
