Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Verse 222,221) {هَلْاُنَبِّئُكُمْعَلٰىمَنْتَنَزَّلُالشَّيٰطِيْنُ …:’’ اَفَّاكٍ ‘‘ ’’إِفْكٌ‘‘} is an intensive form, meaning a tremendous liar. {’’اَثِيْمٍ ‘‘ ’’إِثْمٌ‘‘} is an intensive form, meaning a severe sinner. Previously, it was stated that the devils neither bring down this Qur’an nor is it possible for them; now it is being explained that just as it is impossible for the devils to bring down the Qur’an, it is also impossible for them to descend upon the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, because he is truthful and trustworthy and adorned with all the virtues of goodness. The devils descend only upon those who are extremely liars and severe sinners, because they are meant to descend only upon those whose hearts are receptive to their words and who share with them in lying, betrayal, wickedness, and other baseness. By this are meant those soothsayers, astrologers, fortune-tellers, those who reveal thefts, and practitioner types who pretend to know the unseen and go around telling people their fortunes. Some run their businesses by claiming to have subdued jinn and appointed spirits.
