Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 199,198) "Al-A'jameen" is the plural of "A'jam", meaning mute or someone who does not know Arabic at all, whether human or animal. {’’أَعْجَمِيٌّ‘‘} has the same meaning, with the addition of the ya of relation for emphasis. In these verses, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is comforted that the only reason these people do not believe is that they have already decided that they will never believe in it, so you should not be grieved by their disbelief. If now these people are not believing in this Qur’an because it was revealed to an Arab Messenger, even though it is the greatest miracle, the like of which they could not produce even a single surah, claiming that he himself composed it, then if We had revealed this most eloquent and articulate Arabic speech to a non-Arab, who did not know a single word of Arabic, and he recited it before them, so that they could not deny its being from Allah, even then, due to their intense stubbornness, they would not have believed, but would have called it magic or made some other excuse to deny it, as Allah Almighty said: «{ اِنَّالَّذِيْنَحَقَّتْعَلَيْهِمْكَلِمَتُرَبِّكَلَايُؤْمِنُوْنَ (96) وَلَوْجَآءَتْهُمْكُلُّاٰيَةٍحَتّٰىيَرَوُاالْعَذَابَالْاَلِيْمَ }»[ یونس : ۹۶، ۹۷ ] “Indeed, those upon whom the word of your Lord has come into effect will not believe, even if every sign comes to them, until they see the painful punishment.” See also Surah Al-Hijr (14, 15) and Al-An’am (111).
