(Ayah 114){ وَ مَاۤ اَنَا بِطَارِدِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ : } This is the response to the demand of the chiefs that if you expel these lowly people from your company, then we will sit in your gathering. He said, I am by no means one to expel the believers, that I should drive them out. (Because of the emphasis of negation with "baa", the phrase "by no means" has been added in the translation.) How can it be that I keep following those who do not accept my words, and those who do accept my words, I drive them out? (See Abasa: 5 to 9) My duty is only to warn, in clear and explicit words, of the evil end of disbelief; then whoever wishes may accept, and whoever wishes may not accept. The exact same situation occurred with our Prophet (peace be upon him); the conversation between Nuh (peace be upon him) and his people is being narrated to the Prophet (peace be upon him) for this very reason. The only difference is between Nuh (peace be upon him) and Muhammad (peace be upon him); otherwise, the call of both and the response of the arrogant and proud chiefs to both is the same. Surely, in this there is great consolation for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that all this is not happening to him alone; the very first Messenger sent to the people of the earth faced the same thing.
