Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 64) {وَ الَّذِيْنَ يَبِيْتُوْنَ لِرَبِّهِمْ …:} In the previous verse, their dealings with people were mentioned; in this verse, their dealings with their Lord are mentioned. Hasan Basri said: "In the previous verse, their day is mentioned, and in this verse, their night." This verse proves the importance of standing in prayer at night (Qiyam al-Layl). See also Ayah: «{ تَتَجَافٰى جُنُوْبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ [ السجدۃ : ۱۶ ] and Ayah: «{ كَانُوْا قَلِيْلًا مِّنَ الَّيْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُوْنَ [ الذاریات : ۱۷ ] Amir al-Mu'minin Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) said, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: [ مَنْ صَلَّی الْعِشَاءَ فِيْ جَمَاعَةٍ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَامَ نِصْفَ اللَّيْلِ وَ مَنْ صَلَّی الصُّبْحَ فِيْ جَمَاعَةٍ فَكَأَنَّمَا صَلَّی اللَّيْلَ كُلَّهُ] [مسلم، المساجد و مواضع الصلاۃ، باب فضل صلاۃ العشاء والصبح في جماعۃ : ۶۵۶ ] "Whoever prays the 'Isha prayer in congregation, it is as if he has stood in prayer for half the night, and whoever prays the Fajr prayer in congregation, it is as if he has prayed the whole night." This hadith proves that by praying 'Isha and Fajr in congregation, one attains the reward of Qiyam al-Layl. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that those who are regular in Qiyam al-Layl in addition to this cannot be equaled by those who suffice with only the obligatory prayers.
