Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 35) ➊ { وَلَقَدْاٰتَيْنَامُوْسَىالْكِتٰبَ :} In these verses, Allah Almighty has mentioned the stories of five messengers and their nations, and the towns of the people of Lot, in a very concise manner. The purpose is to console the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and to warn those who deny him of a bad end like that of the previous nations. Regarding the book that was given to Musa (peace be upon him) before being sent to Pharaoh, there are two opinions: one is that it was the Torah itself, and the book that was given to Musa (peace be upon him) on "Tur" after Pharaoh was drowned, in the form of tablets, was not the complete Torah, but a part of it. The second opinion is that the Torah was given to Musa (peace be upon him) on "Tur" after Pharaoh was drowned, and before that, the book that was given to Musa (peace be upon him) when he was sent to Pharaoh refers to those divine commands based on revelation which were other than the Torah, and these are also called "the Book of Allah," as the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said regarding the judgment about the laborer who committed adultery with the wife of the man for whom he was working. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: [ وَالَّذِيْنَفْسِيْبِيَدِهِلَأَقْضِيَنَّبَيْنَكُمَابِكِتَابِاللّٰهِ ] "By Him in Whose hand is my soul! I will judge between you both according to the Book of Allah." Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered one hundred lashes and one year of exile for the unmarried laborer, and stoning for the woman in case of confession. [ بخاري، الشروط، باب الشروط التي لا تحل في الحدود : ۲۷۲۴، ۲۷۲۵ ] According to this opinion, Pharaoh was drowned because he denied this Book of Allah, which was other than the Torah and which was sent to Musa (peace be upon him) in the form of divine speech. ➋ { وَجَعَلْنَامَعَهٗۤاَخَاهُهٰرُوْنَوَزِيْرًا :} See Surah Ta-Ha (29 to 35). In this verse, there is also an indication that if a messenger really needs help, an angel is not sent to share his burden, as the disbelievers demand, but rather a man is sent.
