وَإِذَآ أُلْقُوا۟ مِنْهَا مَكَانًا ضَيِّقًا مُّقَرَّنِينَ دَعَوْا۟ هُنَالِكَ ثُبُورًا ﴿13﴾
And when they shall be thrown into a narrow place thereof, chained together, they will exclaim therein for destruction.
وَإِذَآ wa-idhā And when
أُلْقُوا۟ ul'qū they are thrown
مِنْهَا min'hā thereof
مَكَانًۭا makānan (in) a place
ضَيِّقًۭا ḍayyiqan narrow
مُّقَرَّنِينَ muqarranīna bound in chains
دَعَوْا۟ daʿaw they will call
هُنَالِكَ hunālika there
ثُبُورًۭا thubūran (for) destruction

(Ayah 13) {وَ اِذَاۤ اُلْقُوْا مِنْهَا مَكَانًا ضَيِّقًا …:’’ مُقَرَّنِيْنَ ‘‘ ’’قَرَنَ الثَّوْرَيْنِ‘‘} (ض) He joined together two oxen in one yoke. {’’ قَرَنَ الْبَعِيْرَيْنِ‘‘} He tied together two camels with one rope. {’’ مُقَرَّنِيْنَ ‘‘} It is a passive participle from the Bab Taf'il, expressing intensity in binding. From this, two meanings are derived: one, that their hands, feet, and necks will be bound with chains; and two, that many criminals of the same kind will be together in one place. (See Naml: 83; Ha Mim Sajdah: 19) That is, in Hell, every criminal will have such a confined space that he will not even be able to move, and in addition, many criminals of the same kind will be together. (See Ibrahim: 49; Humazah: 8, 9) The flames of Hell will surround them from all sides, and at that time, overwhelmed by severe distress, they will call for death. Shah Abdul Qadir (may Allah have mercy on him) writes: "That is, if they could die once, they would be freed; their condition will be worse than dying a thousand times in a day." (Mawdhih)
