Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 56){وَاَقِيْمُواالصَّلٰوةَوَاٰتُواالزَّكٰوةَ …:} Its conjunction is with {’’ يَعْبُدُوْنَنِيْلَايُشْرِكُوْنَبِيْشَيْـًٔا ‘‘}, because although it is, in words, a statement, in meaning it is a command. As if it is being said: {’’ اُعْبُدُوْنِيْوَلَاتُشْرِكُوْابِيْشَيْئًاوَأَقِيْمُواالصَّلاَةَوَآتُواالزَّكَاةَ… ‘‘} An example of a statement being in the meaning of a command is this verse: { يٰۤاَيُّهَاالَّذِيْنَاٰمَنُوْاهَلْاَدُلُّكُمْعَلٰىتِجَارَةٍتُنْجِيْكُمْمِّنْعَذَابٍاَلِيْمٍ (10) تُؤْمِنُوْنَبِاللّٰهِوَرَسُوْلِهٖ } Then it is said: «{ يَغْفِرْلَكُمْذُنُوْبَكُمْ }»[ الصف : ۱۰ تا ۱۲ ] In this, the jazm on {’’ يَغْفِرْ ‘‘} is because it is the answer to a command, which is in the form of a statement in {’’ تُؤْمِنُوْنَبِاللّٰهِوَرَسُوْلِهٖ ‘‘}. (Ibn Ashur) In this verse, Allah Almighty has described the way to attain succession on earth and to become deserving of Allah’s mercy: worship Allah alone, do not associate anyone with Him (this is evident from the conjunction (via the letter 'waw') with {’’ يَعْبُدُوْنَنِيْ۠لَايُشْرِكُوْنَبِيْشَيْـًٔا ‘‘}), establish prayer, give zakat, and obey the Messenger, so that mercy may be shown to you. This is a very comprehensive verse; there is nothing in the religion that is not included in this verse. After mentioning the oneness of Allah, prayer and zakat are specifically mentioned, and then the command is given to obey every command of the Messenger.
