Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 95) ➊ {وَاِنَّاعَلٰۤىاَنْنُّرِيَكَمَانَعِدُهُمْلَقٰدِرُوْنَ :’’إِنَّ‘‘} And the emphasis with "Inna" and "lam" indicates that Allah showed you (ﷺ) the fulfillment of the promised punishment upon the polytheists of Makkah with your own eyes, at a time when you had already separated from them and migrated towards Madinah. Thus, the beginning of this punishment was at Badr, when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ordered the corpses of the chiefs of the disbelievers of Quraysh to be thrown into a well, and then, standing at the edge of that well, called each one by name and said: [ فَإِنَّاقَدْوَجَدْنَامَاوَعَدَنَارَبُّنَاحَقًّافَهَلْوَجَدْتُمْمَاوَعَدَرَبُّكُمْحَقًّا ؟ ][ بخاري، المغازي، باب قتل أبي جھل : ۳۹۷۶ ] "Indeed, we have found true what our Lord promised us, so have you also found true what your Lord promised you?" Then, in the eighth year after Hijrah, Makkah was conquered, and in the tenth year, at the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage, the polytheists were given a four-month respite to either accept Islam or vacate the Arabian Peninsula and leave from here, otherwise they would be completely eliminated through jihad. This punishment descended upon them during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and then, during the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, shirk and the polytheists were eradicated from the surrounding lands and Islam prevailed. (And all praise is due to Allah)
➋ If by punishment is meant the punishment sent down from the sky, as was sent upon ‘Ad and Thamud, then the meaning would be that We are certainly able to show you the punishment We have promised them, but after Musa (علیہ السلام) We have decreed that the punishment for the disbelievers should come at the hands of the Muslims through jihad, as He said: « قَاتِلُوْهُمْيُعَذِّبْهُمُاللّٰهُبِاَيْدِيْكُمْ »[ التوبۃ : ۱۴ ] "Fight them; Allah will punish them by your hands." And indeed, We are able to send down such a punishment from the sky that would wipe them out, but Our wisdom requires that they be given respite, so that those among them who are to accept Islam may do so, and those whose future generations are to accept Islam may come into existence.
