سُوْرَةُ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ
Surah Al-Muminoon (23) — Ayah 83
لَقَدْ وُعِدْنَا نَحْنُ وَءَابَآؤُنَا هَـٰذَا مِن قَبْلُ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ ﴿83﴾

"Verily, this we have been promised - we and our fathers before (us)! This is only the tales of the ancients!"

(Ayah 83) ➊ { لَقَدْ وُعِدْنَا نَحْنُ وَ اٰبَآؤُنَا هٰذَا …:’’ اَسَاطِيْرُ ‘‘ ’’أُسْطُوْرَةٌ‘‘} is the plural of ''أُسْطُوْرَةٌ'', stories and tales written for amusement and fiction. The pattern of {’’ أُفْعُوْلَةٌ ‘‘} is generally used for words that convey the meaning of amusement, such as: {’’أُضْحُوْكَةٌ، أُرْجُوْحَةٌ، أُعْجُوْبَةٌ، أُحْدُوْثَةٌ، أُغْلُوْطَةٌ‘‘} and so on.
➋ In the previous verse, one reason for their denial of the Resurrection was mentioned; this is the second reason: the claim of being resurrected and presented again has been made by previous prophets as well, but despite hundreds and thousands of years passing, it has not been fulfilled, no one has returned after dying, so it is clear that all these are just stories and tales. As if, in their view, the promise of being resurrected is to be fulfilled in this very world. Look at the understanding of those who claim to be extremely intelligent and wise: what is the Messenger saying, and what do they understand from it?
