Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 57) ➊ The meaning of {اِنَّالَّذِيْنَهُمْمِّنْخَشْيَةِرَبِّهِمْمُّشْفِقُوْنَ:’’إِشْفَاقٌ ‘‘} is an intense fear of an anticipated thing, and {’’وَجِلٌ‘‘}, on the pattern of {’’فَزِعٌ‘‘}, means one who fears greatly. Previously, those people were mentioned who are engrossed in heedlessness, and despite their disbelief and disobedience, their wealth and children keep increasing, and they think that Allah is pleased with them, that is why He is giving them all this. Now, in contrast to them, the sincere and believing servants are mentioned, who, despite their perfect faith and deeds, are safe from conceit and self-admiration, and are always fearful that they have to be presented before their Lord. Who knows whether their deeds will be accepted in His presence or not.
➋ In these verses, Allah Almighty has mentioned four qualities of His sincere believing servants. The first is that they fear their Lord greatly, lest He becomes displeased. It should be clear that the fear of the believers for their Lord is not like the fear one has of a tyrant or a merciless oppressor, rather, they consider Him their Lord, the Bestower of every blessing, and along with extreme love for Him, they also have an intense fear of His displeasure.
