Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 49) ➊ { وَلَقَدْاٰتَيْنَامُوْسَىالْكِتٰبَلَعَلَّهُمْيَهْتَدُوْنَ :} Musa (peace be upon him) received the Book Torah after the drowning of the Pharaoh’s people, as mentioned in Surah Al-A’raf (136 to 145), where after the drowning of Pharaoh, Musa (peace be upon him) secluded himself on Mount Tur for forty nights and after the event concerning the vision of Allah, the Book was given to him in the form of tablets. Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Allah Almighty revealed the Torah to Musa (peace be upon him) after drowning Pharaoh and the Copts, and after revealing the Torah, He did not destroy any nation with a general punishment, rather He commanded the believers to fight against the disbelievers, as Allah Almighty said: «وَلَقَدْاٰتَيْنَامُوْسَىالْكِتٰبَمِنْۢبَعْدِمَاۤاَهْلَكْنَاالْقُرُوْنَالْاُوْلٰىبَصَآىِٕرَلِلنَّاسِوَهُدًىوَّرَحْمَةًلَّعَلَّهُمْيَتَذَكَّرُوْنَ »[ القصص : ۴۳ ] ‘And indeed, We gave Musa the Book after We had destroyed the former generations, as enlightenment for the people and guidance and mercy, so that they might take heed.’ Therefore, in {’’ لَعَلَّهُمْ ‘‘} (so that they), the pronoun {’’هُمْ‘‘} will be considered for the Children of Israel only, not for the Pharaoh’s people.
➋ { لَعَلَّهُمْيَهْتَدُوْنَ :} That is, the Book was so that the Children of Israel might receive guidance, but even after finding a prophet among themselves, witnessing his miracles with their own eyes, and hearing the Book revealed to him, most of them did not follow the straight path. As the stories of their disobedience are mentioned repeatedly in the Quran. The Muslim Ummah is warned that beware, your condition should not become like theirs.
