سُوْرَةُ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ
Surah Al-Muminoon (23) — Ayah 30
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ وَإِن كُنَّا لَمُبْتَلِينَ ﴿30﴾

Verily, in this [what We did as regards drowning of the people of Nûh (Noah)], there are indeed Ayât (proofs, evidence, lessons, signs, etc. for men to understand), for sure We are ever putting (men) to the test.

(Ayah 30) ➊ { اِنَّ فِيْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيٰتٍ :} After narrating the story of Noah (peace be upon him), attention is drawn to the lessons derived from it, that indeed there are many signs in this incident. For example, there are many signs of Noah (peace be upon him) being a messenger of firm resolve, such as his unparalleled patience for a long period, the acceptance of his supplication upon being informed of his people’s disbelief, the drowning of his enemies, Allah Almighty confirming his prophethood and praising him, etc. There are also many signs for other nations who, like the people of Noah (peace be upon him), denied the messengers. Similarly, there are many signs of Allah’s great power, such as such a tremendous flood that even mountains could not withstand, and in it, Noah (peace be upon him) and his companions were kept safe and landed in a blessed manner at a blessed place. Likewise, there are many signs of Allah Almighty’s perfect knowledge and wisdom, in how He had determined to completely purify the earth from polytheism, and even in such a destructive flood, He had arranged for the necessities of human beings and the survival of animals, and He did so. ➋ { وَ اِنْ كُنَّا لَمُبْتَلِيْنَ : ’’ وَ ‘‘} In the original, it is {’’إِنَّ‘‘}, whose subject {’’نَا‘‘} is omitted. The evidence is the “lam” that comes on {’’ لَمُبْتَلِيْنَ ‘‘}. {’’كَانَ‘‘} is for continuity, meaning indeed, surely, We are always testing. We tested Noah (peace be upon him) and his people, in the same way, We have continued this trial every prophet and his nation, and even now, We continue this trial. In this, Our wisdom is to reveal the genuine from the false, to reward those who succeed in the test, and to deal with those who fail according to their condition.
➋ { وَ اِنْ كُنَّا لَمُبْتَلِيْنَ : ’’ وَ ‘‘} In the original, it is {’’إِنَّ‘‘}, whose subject {’’نَا‘‘} is omitted.
