وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنِ ٱللَّغْوِ مُعْرِضُونَ ﴿3﴾

(Ayah 3){ وَ الَّذِيْنَ هُمْ عَنِ اللَّغْوِ مُعْرِضُوْنَ:’’لغو‘‘} Every statement or action that has no benefit—this includes shirk and every sin, in fact, every useless and purposeless word and deed. That is, not only do they refrain from engaging in any vain talk or action themselves, but they do not even watch or listen to any vain act taking place; rather, their habit is to always turn away from the vain. Instead of {’’ يُعْرِضُوْنَ‘‘}, the use of {’’ مُعْرِضُوْنَ ‘‘} (active participle) means that turning away from the vain is their habit. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: [ مِنْ حُسْنِ إِسْلَامِ الْمَرْءِ تَرْكُهُ مَا لَا يَعْنِيْهِ ] [ ترمذي، الزھد، باب حدیث من حسن إسلام المرء … : ۲۳۱۷،عن أبي ھریرۃ رضی اللہ عنہ ] "Part of a man's goodness in Islam is his leaving that which does not concern him." The attribute of the servants of the Most Merciful is described: «وَ اِذَا مَرُّوْا بِاللَّغْوِ مَرُّوْا كِرَامًا » [ الفرقان : ۷۲ ] "And when they pass by vain activity, they pass by with dignity." One of the qualities of Paradise will be: « لَا يَسْمَعُوْنَ فِيْهَا لَغْوًا وَّ لَا تَاْثِيْمًا » [ الواقعۃ : ۲۵ ] "They will not hear therein any vain activity or any sinful talk."
