Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 19) ➊ { فَاَنْشَاْنَالَكُمْبِهٖجَنّٰتٍ :} After mentioning the sending down of water, several things indicating life after death are mentioned; the first is that with this water We have produced (not for Ourselves but) for you many kinds of gardens.
➋ { مِنْنَّخِيْلٍوَّاَعْنَابٍ : ’’ نَخِيْلٍ ‘‘} Date palm trees, {’’ اَعْنَابٍ ‘‘ ’’عِنَبٌ‘‘} is the plural, the fruit of the grapevine. The date and grape are mentioned specifically due to their countless benefits, because they have superiority over all other fruits, just as among the angels Jibreel and Mikaal are mentioned specifically, as He said: « مَنْكَانَعَدُوًّالِّلّٰهِوَمَلٰٓىِٕكَتِهٖوَرُسُلِهٖوَجِبْرِيْلَوَمِيْكٰىلَفَاِنَّاللّٰهَعَدُوٌّلِّلْكٰفِرِيْنَ»[ البقرۃ : ۹۸ ] "Whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and His messengers and Jibreel and Mikaal, then indeed Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers." And also because these two fruits are more common in Arabia. Before mentioning the fruit of the grape, the tree of the date palm is mentioned instead of its fruit, because the date palm tree has many benefits besides its fruit. Every part of it is useful; Allah Almighty has declared it a pure tree and given the example of the pure word with it, as He said: « اَلَمْتَرَكَيْفَضَرَبَاللّٰهُمَثَلًاكَلِمَةًطَيِّبَةًكَشَجَرَةٍطَيِّبَةٍ»[ إبراھیم : ۲۴ ] "Have you not seen how Allah sets forth a parable? A good word is like a good tree." Within the mention of the date palm tree are included all those trees whose fruit, flowers, leaves, bark, and wood are all useful.
➌ {لَكُمْفِيْهَافَوَاكِهُكَثِيْرَةٌ … :} Allah Almighty, to draw attention to His favors, repeatedly uses the word {’’ لَكُمْ ‘‘} to emphasize that all this is for you, not for Us, meaning that for you in these gardens, besides date palms and grapes, there are many delicious fruits.
➍ { وَمِنْهَاتَاْكُلُوْنَ :} The conjunction of this sentence onto the preceding nominal one with the previous one indicates that before it there is an omitted verbal sentence: {’’أَيْمِنْهَا«وَهِيَطَرِيَّةٌ»تَتَفَكَّهُوْنَوَمِنْهَاتَأْكُلُوْنَ‘‘} meaning you enjoy some of them fresh and also after drying them or extracting juice and oil from them, and thus they become a part of your food. (Biqā‘ī) {’’ مِنْهَاتَاْكُلُوْنَ ‘‘} also includes that from their income, your food, drink, and other necessities of life are arranged for the whole year.
