Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 98) ➊ { اِنَّكُمْوَمَاتَعْبُدُوْنَمِنْدُوْنِاللّٰهِحَصَبُجَهَنَّمَ :} That is, at that time their confession of guilt and repentance will be of no benefit to them (Surah Al-Mu’min: 85), rather it will be said that you and those things you used to worship, all are the fuel of Hell. This includes their idols and all those humans or jinn who used to take pleasure in being worshipped; Allah Almighty has declared all of them to be the fuel of Hell. The purpose of throwing the idols into the fire is to humiliate these polytheists, so that they may see the condition of their gods, as He said: «{ وَقُوْدُهَاالنَّاسُوَالْحِجَارَةُ }»[ البقرۃ : ۲۴ ] that the fuel of Hell is men and stones. The word {’’ مَا ‘‘} is generally used for those without intellect, as if those humans and jinn who took pleasure in being worshipped are being considered as without intellect. If {’’ مَا ‘‘} is considered general for both those with intellect and those without, as it is sometimes used, even then Allah’s prophets and accepted servants will not be included in this, because in verse (101) there is glad tidings for all believers of being kept away from Hell.
➋ The word { اَنْتُمْلَهَاوٰرِدُوْنَ: ’’ لَهَا ‘‘} coming before {’’ وٰرِدُوْنَ ‘‘} creates exclusivity, so instead of translating as “in it,” it will be “in it alone” you will enter. The benefit of this sentence is that after becoming the fuel of Hell, do not think that like the monotheists you will come out of it and enter Paradise—no! Rather, you will remain in it alone. Besides this, by bringing {’’ وٰرِدُوْنَ ‘‘} later, there is also conformity with the rhyming endings (final letters) of the other verses.
