Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 85) ➊ { وَاِسْمٰعِيْلَوَاِدْرِيْسَوَذَاالْكِفْلِ :} That is, remember these three. After mentioning the patience of Ayub (peace be upon him) and the good outcome he received, Allah Almighty mentioned His three prophets who were especially adorned with the quality of patience. Ismail (peace be upon him), when his noble father asked him about the sacrifice, said: «{ سَتَجِدُنِيْۤاِنْشَآءَاللّٰهُمِنَالصّٰبِرِيْنَ }»[ الصافات : ۱۰۲ ] "If Allah wills, you will find me among the patient." And he truly demonstrated patience. Similarly, he showed patience in permanently residing in a barren valley, living with hunting and Zamzam, and then bore every hardship in the construction of the House of Allah. Allah Almighty brought forth from his progeny the leader of the children of Adam, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The mention of Ismail and Idris (peace be upon them) has already passed in Surah Maryam (54 to 57). There is no detail in the Qur'an and Hadith regarding Dhul-Kifl. Ibn Kathir said that mentioning him with the prophets indicates that he was a prophet of Allah. (And Allah knows best.) Apart from this, all the statements about him mentioned in the commentaries are based on Israiliyat and are baseless.
➋ { كُلٌّمِّنَالصّٰبِرِيْنَ :} The literal meaning of patience is to bind. It is of three types: (1) Patience in obedience to Allah Almighty, that is, to keep oneself bound to His obedience. (2) Patience in refraining from disobedience to Allah Almighty, that is, to restrain oneself from it. (3) Patience upon the calamities and hardships written in the decree of Allah Almighty, that is, to restrain oneself from panic and from complaining to Allah Almighty or the creation. No one can be called patient until he is fully adorned with all three types of patience. Allah Almighty has testified regarding all these prophets that they fulfilled the right of patience completely.
