سُوْرَةُ الْاَنْۣبِيَآءِ
Surah Al-Anbiyaa (21) — Ayah 51
۞ وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَآ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ رُشْدَهُۥ مِن قَبْلُ وَكُنَّا بِهِۦ عَـٰلِمِينَ ﴿51﴾

And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrâhîm (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allâh).

(Ayah 51) ➊ {وَ لَقَدْ اٰتَيْنَاۤ اِبْرٰهِيْمَ رُشْدَهٗ … : ’’رُشْدٌ‘‘} Guidance and the straight path, this word comes in contrast to {’’غَيٌّ‘‘}, as He said: «{ قَدْ تَّبَيَّنَ الرُّشْدُ مِنَ الْغَيِّ}» [ البقرۃ : ۲۵۶ ] "Indeed, guidance has become distinct from error." And also in the meaning of understanding and intelligence, as He said: «{ فَاِنْ اٰنَسْتُمْ مِّنْهُمْ رُشْدًا }» [ النساء : ۶ ] "Then if you perceive some intelligence in them." {’’ رُشْدَهٗ ‘‘} Meaning, the understanding that was appropriate for him.
➋ { مِنْ قَبْلُ :} Meaning, before Musa and Harun (peace be upon them) or before granting prophethood. Some have said after coming out of the cave. For details, see Surah Al-An'am (75 to 79).
➌ { وَ كُنَّا بِهٖ عٰلِمِيْنَ :} Meaning, We knew what qualities and abilities We had placed in him. However many virtues of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) may be mentioned, this testimony of Allah is greater than all of them. This rank is only granted to the one who, in Allah's knowledge, is worthy of it. He said: «{اَللّٰهُ اَعْلَمُ حَيْثُ يَجْعَلُ رِسَالَتَهٗ }» [ الأنعام : ۱۲۴ ] "Allah knows best where He places His message."
