And if any of them should say: "Verily, I am an ilâh (a god) besides Him (Allâh)," such a one We should recompense with Hell. Thus We recompense the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers).

(Ayah 29) ➊ { وَمَنْيَّقُلْمِنْهُمْاِنِّيْۤاِلٰهٌ …:} That is, hypothetically, if any of these angels or prophets were to say, "Worship me instead of Allah," then We would recompense him with Hell. Such a thing can never be committed by the angels and prophets. This is just like the warning given to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and all the prophets that if they were to commit shirk, all their deeds would be rendered void, even though they would never commit shirk. See Surah Al-An'am (83–88) and Az-Zumar (65).
➋ { كَذٰلِكَنَجْزِيالظّٰلِمِيْنَ:} What could be a greater injustice than for a creation, which is deficient and needy in every way, to claim to be Lord and deity in opposition to Allah Almighty? The reality is that there is no greater injustice and unfairness than shirk (Luqman: 13), and that is why there is no possibility of forgiveness for it in the Hereafter.
