Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 99){كَذٰلِكَنَقُصُّعَلَيْكَ …:} That is, just as We have informed you about the circumstances of Musa (Moses) (peace be upon him), Bani Israel, Pharaoh, and his people, in the same way We narrate to you some of the news of that which have passed before you. Neither had you seen them, nor did you or your people have knowledge of them. See Hud (49). The purpose of these is not merely to pass time or for enjoyment, rather the purpose is admonition, and We have granted you this great admonition from Our side. By this great admonition is meant the Book and Wisdom (Qur’an and Sunnah) revealed through divine revelation. Other than this, even the words of the greatest person are neither from Allah nor is there permission to act upon them. See Surah Al-A’raf (3). The tanween of {’’ ذِكْرًا ‘‘} is for magnification, hence it is translated as “great admonition,” and { ’’ مِنْ ‘‘} is for partiality, hence it is translated as “some news”; there is neither a need to hear all the news nor can all be heard. {’’ مَا ‘‘} is mostly used for non-rational beings, so instead of translating as “those people,” it is translated as “some news of those things”; “some news of those circumstances” can also be a translation.
