Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 85) ➊ { قَالَ فَاِنَّا قَدْ فَتَنَّا قَوْمَكَ …:} This "fa" is for causation, meaning your leaving your people and providing an opportunity for the corrupters became the reason that after you, We put your people to trial and the Samiri led them astray. Here, one thing should be remembered: it was by making the calf that the Samiri led them astray. Allah Almighty has also clarified this, that it was the Samiri who led them astray. However, since Allah Almighty is the Creator of all causes and all hearts are in His hand, the attribution of putting them to trial is made to Allah Almighty.

{مِنْۢ بَعْدِكَ:} Musa (peace be upon him) had told his people about a retreat of thirty days, which Allah Almighty completed with forty days, so the people were unaware of this; they did not know when Musa (peace be upon him) would return. Taking advantage of this period, the Samiri did what he did. That is why Allah Almighty used the word {’’ مِنْ‘‘} before { ’’ بَعْدِكَ ‘‘ }, which means "some," i.e., in some of the period after you, the Samiri led them astray. (Biqā‘ī)
