Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
The original meaning of {اِنَّهٗطَغٰى : ’’ طُغْيَانٌ ‘‘ } is to exceed the limits, as He said: «{ اِنَّالَمَّاطَغَاالْمَآءُحَمَلْنٰكُمْفِيالْجَارِيَةِ } »[الحاقۃ : ۱۱ ] “Indeed, it is We who carried you in the ship when the water overflowed.” The transgression of Pharaoh has been mentioned by Allah Almighty in several places, that he claimed to be the highest Lord. (An-Nazi‘at: 24) He claimed to be the only deity (ilah) without any partner. (Al-Qasas: 38) Because the Children of Israel did not accept these things, he subjected them to slavery and the worst kinds of torment, mercilessly killed their sons, kept their women alive to be subjected to his and his people’s excesses, and forced the men into hard labor. (Al-Qasas: 4) Whoever he wished, he would imprison for denial. (Ash-Shu‘ara: 29)
