Surah Taa-Haa (20) — Ayah 38
إِذْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمِّكَ مَا يُوحَىٰٓ ﴿38﴾

(Ayah 38) ➊ { اِذْ اَوْحَيْنَاۤ اِلٰۤى اُمِّكَ مَا يُوْحٰۤى :} When the greatness of something is intended to be expressed, this style is adopted: "which was revealed," meaning its greatness cannot be described in limited words, as is in «{ فَغَشِيَهُمْ مِّنَ الْيَمِّ مَا غَشِيَهُمْ }» [ طٰہٰ : ۷۸ ] and «{ فَاَوْحٰۤى اِلٰى عَبْدِهٖ مَاۤ اَوْحٰى }» [ النجم : ۱۰ ].
➋ Here, to inform and reassure the mother of Musa (peace be upon him), the words {’’ اَوْحَيْنَاۤ ‘‘} (We revealed) and {’’ يُوْحٰۤى ‘‘} (which was revealed) have been used. The literal meaning of "wahy" is a swift sign or putting something into the heart. In technical terms, when this word is used for a prophet, it means sending a message through an angel. In the Quran, the word "wahy" has been used in both senses; thus, the revelation sent to the mother of Musa (peace be upon him) was also in the literal sense, that is, in a dream or by some secret way, this matter was put into her heart, by which she gained certainty and reassurance. Because there is almost consensus among the scholars that all the prophets of Allah have been from among men; no woman has been made a prophet. See Surah Yusuf (109) and Al-Anbiya (7). Therefore, the mother of Musa (peace be upon him) was not a prophet, so the meaning of "wahy" for her is not the same as it is for a prophet. (Kabir)
