Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 37){ وَلَقَدْمَنَنَّاعَلَيْكَمَرَّةًاُخْرٰۤى :} Speaking directly with Allah, being granted the rank of prophethood and messengership, being given the miracles of the staff and the shining hand, witnessing them with his own eyes, and the acceptance of all four supplications made at that occasion—each of these was a great favor. Now Allah has mentioned the eight favors bestowed upon him previously. The purpose is that I have bestowed favors upon you before, I have done so now, and I will continue to do so in the future, because I have created you especially for Myself. He said: «{ وَاصْطَنَعْتُكَلِنَفْسِيْ }»[ طٰہٰ : ۴۱ ] “And I have chosen you especially for Myself.” Just as Allah reminded the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) of past favors to assure him of future promises, He said: «{ وَلَسَوْفَيُعْطِيْكَرَبُّكَفَتَرْضٰى (5) اَلَمْيَجِدْكَيَتِيْمًافَاٰوٰى (6) وَوَجَدَكَضَآلًّافَهَدٰى (7) وَوَجَدَكَعَآىِٕلًافَاَغْنٰى}»[ الضحیٰ : ۵ تا ۸ ] “And surely your Lord will soon give you so much that you will be pleased. Did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter? And He found you unaware of the way, so He guided you. And He found you in need, so He enriched you.” (Ibn Ashur)
“And indeed, We bestowed favor upon you another time as well.” Here, the favor is mentioned in a general sense, to create eagerness about what that favor was. Then, in four verses (38 to 41), He mentioned eight favors in succession: (1) {’’اِذْاَوْحَيْنَاۤاِلٰۤىاُمِّكَمَايُوْحٰۤى ‘‘} (2) {’’ وَاَلْقَيْتُعَلَيْكَمَحَبَّةًمِّنِّيْ ‘‘} (3) {’’ وَلِتُصْنَعَعَلٰىعَيْنِيْ ‘‘} (4) {’’ فَرَجَعْنٰكَاِلٰۤىاُمِّكَكَيْتَقَرَّعَيْنُهَاوَلَاتَحْزَنَ ‘‘} (5) {’’ وَقَتَلْتَنَفْسًافَنَجَّيْنٰكَمِنَالْغَمِّ ‘‘} (6) {’’ وَفَتَنّٰكَفُتُوْنًا ‘‘} (7) {’’ فَلَبِثْتَسِنِيْنَفِيْۤاَهْلِمَدْيَنَثُمَّجِئْتَعَلٰىقَدَرٍيّٰمُوْسٰى ‘‘} (8) {’’ وَاصْطَنَعْتُكَلِنَفْسِيْ ‘‘}
