سُوْرَةُ طٰهٰ
Surah Taa-Haa (20) — Ayah 105
وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلْجِبَالِ فَقُلْ يَنسِفُهَا رَبِّى نَسْفًا ﴿105﴾

And they ask you concerning the mountains: say, "My Lord will blast them and scatter them as particles of dust.

(Ayah 106,105) ➊ {وَ يَسْـَٔلُوْنَكَ عَنِ الْجِبَالِ … :} Qurtubi said that wherever a question is mentioned in the Noble Qur’an, the word {’’قُلْ‘‘} is used in response. Only at this place, {’’ فَقُلْ ‘‘} has come with a fa (ف). The reason for this is that at all other places, the answers are to questions that had already been asked, but here the fa is because Allah Almighty has given the answer to a question that was going to be asked in the future, that is, {’’ فَإِنْ سَأَلُوْكَ فَقُلْ… ‘‘} meaning if they ask you, then say… That is, the fa is evidence that there is an omitted condition before it.
➋ { فَقُلْ يَنْسِفُهَا رَبِّيْ نَسْفًا … :} With the mention of the blowing of the trumpet, the establishment of the Day of Judgment, and the gathering of all people, a question was about to arise from the deniers of the Resurrection; Allah Almighty gave its answer beforehand, that in their view, such lofty and strong mountains cannot be moved from their place by anyone, so they will ask: what will happen to these mountains? Allah Almighty said: if these people ask, then say to them that my Lord will blow them away and scatter them. The emphasis of {’’ يَنْسِفُهَا ‘‘} is with {’’ نَسْفًا ‘‘}, so that no one thinks that {’’يَنْسِفُ‘‘} is not in its original meaning but metaphorical. That is, in reality, Allah Almighty will break them into pieces and scatter them. For details of the states that will pass over the mountains, see the commentary of Surah Naba (20). {’’ قَاعًا ‘‘} means plain. {’’ صَفْصَفًا ‘‘} means level.
