Do you (faithful believers) covet that they will believe in your religion inspite of the fact that a party of them (Jewish rabbis) used to hear the Word of Allâh [the Taurât (Torah)], then they used to change it knowingly after they understood it?
۞ أَفَتَطْمَعُونَ afataṭmaʿūna Do you hope

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 75) This address is to the Muslims, that expecting faith from the Jews is futile; their earlier elders are such that they knowingly altered the word of Allah, that is, the Torah. Here, the word "alteration" includes both verbal and interpretative alteration. They changed the words of the Torah as well, but mostly tried to change the meanings through incorrect interpretations. The present-day Jews have altered those verses of the Torah in which the attributes of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) were mentioned, and have, from their own minds, declared the forbidden as lawful and the lawful as forbidden. (Ibn Kathir, Qurtubi) Nowadays, the false scholars also fabricate all kinds of references from the Qur'an and Hadith to justify their self-made issues and are committing alteration in the Shariah.
