Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Kind words and forgiving of faults are better than Sadaqah (charity) followed by injury. And Allâh is Rich (Free of all needs) and He is Most-Forbearing.
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 263) ➊ { قَوْلٌمَّعْرُوْفٌ … : } That is, if someone cannot give charity, then he should apologize with good words, and instead of getting angry at the insistence and rudeness of the beggar, he should act with forgiveness and forbearance, and reflect on how self-sufficient Allah is, yet how forbearing He is, that despite our mistakes, He deals with us patiently. We should also act with such forbearance. ➋ Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every good deed is charity, and among the good deeds is that you meet your brother with a cheerful face, and that you pour (water) from your bucket into his bucket."
