Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 18) ➊ { ”صُمٌّۢ“ } is the plural of (deaf) { ”اَصَّمُ“ }. { ”بُكْمٌ“ } (dumb) is the plural of { ”اَبْكَمُ“ }, and {”عُمْيٌ“} (blind) is the plural of {’’اَعْمَي‘‘}. Their being deaf, dumb, and blind does not mean that they do not have ears, tongues, or eyes at all, but rather it means that despite having all these, they did not benefit from them, as Allah Almighty has said: «{ وَجَعَلْنَالَهُمْسَمْعًاوَّاَبْصَارًاوَّاَفْئِدَةًفَمَاۤاَغْنٰىعَنْهُمْسَمْعُهُمْوَلَاۤاَبْصَارُهُمْوَلَاۤاَفْـئِدَتُهُمْمِّنْشَيْءٍاِذْكَانُوْايَجْحَدُوْنَبِاٰيٰتِاللّٰهِ }»[ الأحقاف : ۲۶ ] "And We made for them ears and eyes and hearts, but neither their ears availed them, nor their eyes, nor their hearts, because they used to deny the signs of Allah." ➋ {فَهُمْلَايَرْجِعُوْنَ:} That is, they do not return from the misguidance which they have purchased and to the guidance which they have sold. In these verses, the mention is of those hypocrites who professed faith with their tongues but were staunch disbelievers in their hearts.
