Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 172) Before this, all people were commanded to eat lawful and pure things; in this verse, Allah Almighty has specifically commanded the believers to eat and earn lawful and pure sustenance, because without this, no supplication or worship is accepted. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people! Indeed, Allah is Pure, and He accepts only what is pure. He has commanded the believers with the same thing He commanded His messengers, as He said: «یاَیُّہَا الرُّسُلُ کُلُوْا مِنَ الطَّیِّبَاتِ وَاعْمَلُوْا صَالِحًا اِنِّیْ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ عَلِیْمٌ » [ المؤمنون : ۵۱ ] 'O messengers! Eat from the pure things and do righteous deeds; surely I am well aware of what you do.' And He said: « یٰٓاَیُّھَا الَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْا کُلُوْا مِنْ طَیِّبٰتِ مَا رَزَقْنٰکُمْ » [ البقرۃ : ۱۷۲ ] 'O you who have believed! Eat from the pure things We have provided for you.' Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned a man who undertakes a long journey, his hair disheveled, covered in dust, raising his hands towards the sky and saying: 'O my Lord! O my Lord!' (while his condition is such that) his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothing is unlawful, and he has been nourished with unlawful things—so how can his supplication be accepted?"
