Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

By {”الدِّيْنَ“} is meant Islam here, because in the previous verse, the adoption of the same religion of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) is mentioned. Dying in a state of being Muslim is only possible when a person remains Muslim, that is, obedient at all times; if there is ever any shortcoming, he should immediately repent, because death can come at any time. The prophets (peace be upon them) were very concerned about themselves and their children being Muslim at the last moment, because deeds are judged by their endings. The hadith is: [ إِنَّمَا الْأَعْمَالُ بِالْخَوَاتِيْمِ ] [ بخاری، القدر، باب العمل بالخواتیم : ۶۶۰۷ ] The prayer of Yusuf (peace be upon him) is: «{ تَوَفَّنِيْ مُسْلِمًا وَّ اَلْحِقْنِيْ بِالصّٰلِحِيْنَ [ یوسف : ۱۰۱] "Cause me to die as a Muslim and join me with the righteous." Although being a Muslim at the last moment is not in a person's control but in the hand of Allah Almighty, yet the way of Allah is that whoever, with heartfelt attachment, adopts any path—good or bad—and tries to remain steadfast on it, then Allah Almighty grants him the ability to do so. See Surah Al-Lail (5 to 10).
