The Cow · Medinan · Juz 1 · Page 18

And those who have no knowledge say: "Why does not Allâh speak to us (face to face) or why does not a sign come to us?" So said the people before them words of similar import. Their hearts are alike, We have indeed made plain the signs for people who believe with certainty.
وَقَالَ waqāla And said
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who
لَا (do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ yaʿlamūna know

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 118) By this are meant the disbelievers of Arabia who, like the people before them, that is, the Jews and Christians, made similar demands. See also Surah Bani Isra'il (90 to 93), Al-Furqan (21), and Surah Al-Muddathir (52) { ”تَشَابَهَتْ قُلُوْبُهُمْ“ } meaning all of their thinking is alike, and it is stated that the truthfulness of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is clear from the Noble Qur'an; if these people were people of certainty, these proofs would have been sufficient.
