Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 108) ➊ Although it is not mentioned here what question was asked of Musa (peace be upon him), it has been mentioned earlier that he was asked to show Allah openly. [البقرۃ : ۵۵ ] The People of the Book also adopted a similar disrespectful attitude towards the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), as mentioned in Surah An-Nisa (153): "The People of the Book ask you to bring down to them a book from the sky, but they had asked Musa for something even greater than that, for they said: 'Show us Allah openly.'" Allah Almighty has forbidden not only disrespectful questions but also asking about things during the time of revelation which, if made clear, would be unpleasant. See Surah Al-Ma'idah (101) and its footnote.
➋ Allah Almighty has declared that asking disrespectful questions is equivalent to choosing disbelief over faith.
