Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 82) ➊ { كَلَّاسَيَكْفُرُوْنَبِعِبَادَتِهِمْ :} They will deny in this sense that they will say, “We never told them to worship us, nor to call upon us in times of distress, nor were we aware that they were worshipping us.” Allah Almighty has mentioned this in several places. See Surah Yunus (28, 29), Nahl (86), Qasas (63), Fatir (13, 14), and Ahqaf (5, 6). Similarly, the disbelievers will also deny worshipping their deities and will turn against them; rather, they will swear by Allah, saying, “By Allah! We were not polytheists.” See Surah An’am (23). In fact, they and their deities will curse each other. See Ankabut (25) and Surah Baqarah (166, 167).
➋ {وَيَكُوْنُوْنَعَلَيْهِمْضِدًّا : } That is, instead of being a means of protection or honor for them, they will actually become the cause of their punishment and, on the Day of Resurrection, will be their severe opponents and a source of regret for them. For countless deities, the word {’’ ضِدًّا ‘‘} is used in the singular, because the word {’’ ضِدًّا ‘‘} is a verbal noun, which is used for singular, plural, masculine, and feminine alike. Some commentators have said that due to the unity and agreement of these deities against their worshippers, they have been considered as {’’شَيْءٌوَاحِدٌ‘‘} (one single thing), and thus the singular form is used, just as the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said regarding all Muslims: [ وَهُمْيَدٌعَلٰیمَنْسِوَاهُمْ ][ أبوداوٗد، الدیات، باب أیُقاد المسلم من الکافر؟ : ۴۵۳۰۔ نسائی : ۴۷۳۸۔ صحیح الجامع : ۶۶۶۶ ] “They are like one hand against all others.”
