Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 79) ➊ {’’ كَلَّا ‘‘} This word is used for denial and rebuke, meaning both of these things are absolutely not the case, so only one thing remains: that he has attributed a false statement to Allah from himself. Here in Surah Maryam, this third point is not mentioned, because earlier in Surah Al-Baqarah, while refuting the claim of the Jews, this point has already been discussed, and the verses of the Qur’an explain each other. It is said: «{ وَ قَالُوْا لَنْ تَمَسَّنَا النَّارُ اِلَّاۤ اَيَّامًا مَّعْدُوْدَةً قُلْ اَتَّخَذْتُمْ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ عَهْدًا فَلَنْ يُّخْلِفَ اللّٰهُ عَهْدَهٗۤ اَمْ تَقُوْلُوْنَ عَلَى اللّٰهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ [ البقرۃ : ۸۰ ] “And they said, ‘The Fire will never touch us except for a few numbered days.’ Say, ‘Have you taken a covenant with Allah? For Allah will never break His covenant. Or do you say about Allah that which you do not know?’” (Shanqiti)

{ وَ نَمُدُّ لَهٗ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ مَدًّا :} That is, We will punish him with multiple torments: one punishment for disbelief, one for mockery and ridicule, one for hindering from the path of Allah, one for leading others to the path of disbelief, and one for spreading corruption. See also Surah An-Nahl (88), Al-A’raf (38), and Al-Ankabut (13). Similarly, in the world, We will punish him through wealth, children, and all kinds of adornments, then with death, and in the Hereafter with further punishment. It is said: «{ اِنَّمَا يُرِيْدُ اللّٰهُ اَنْ يُّعَذِّبَهُمْ بِهَا فِي الدُّنْيَا [ التوبۃ : ۸۵ ] “Allah only wishes to punish them through these (wealth and children) in the world, and that their souls depart while they are disbelievers.”
