Surah Maryam (19) — Ayah 49

فَلَمَّا ٱعْتَزَلَهُمْ وَمَا يَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَهَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ إِسْحَـٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ ۖ وَكُلًّا جَعَلْنَا نَبِيًّا ﴿49﴾
So when he had turned away from them and from those whom they worshipped besides Allâh, We gave him Ishâq (Isaac) and Ya‘qûb (Jacob), and each one of them We made a Prophet.
فَلَمَّا falammā So when
ٱعْتَزَلَهُمْ iʿ'tazalahum he left them
وَمَا wamā and what
يَعْبُدُونَ yaʿbudūna they worshipped
مِن min besides Allah
دُونِ dūni besides Allah
ٱللَّهِ l-lahi besides Allah
وَهَبْنَا wahabnā [and] We bestowed
لَهُۥٓ lahu [to] him
إِسْحَـٰقَ is'ḥāqa Isaac
وَيَعْقُوبَ ۖ wayaʿqūba and Yaqub
وَكُلًّۭا wakullan and each (of them)
جَعَلْنَا jaʿalnā We made
نَبِيًّۭا nabiyyan a Prophet

(Ayah 49) ➊ { فَلَمَّا اعْتَزَلَهُمْ وَ مَا يَعْبُدُوْنَ … :} In return for migrating from his homeland and distancing himself from the polytheists, Allah Almighty granted him countless blessings, among which was that He gave him a son and grandson of great stature, namely Ishaq and Yaqub (peace be upon them), so that his heart would find comfort and he would not feel lonely in exile.

{ وَ كُلًّا جَعَلْنَا نَبِيًّا :} This verse is evidence that Ishaq and Yaqub (peace be upon them) had already become prophets during his lifetime, because if it were meant that they became prophets later, then Yusuf (peace be upon him) would also have been mentioned, as he too was a prophet. The joy of having a son and grandson is itself immense, let alone receiving glad tidings of them beforehand (Hud: 71) and witnessing them attain the lofty rank of prophethood with one's own eyes. Ismail (peace be upon him) is not mentioned here because he did not stay with him. His mention is coming separately ahead.

➌ This verse is also an example of the reality that whoever leaves something for the sake of Allah, Allah Almighty grants him something far better in return.
